Kyrgyzstan to spend over $604 million on education sector

This statement was made by Minister of Education and Science Ulanbek Mambetakunov.

The Mekenchil group of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan held a meeting in Bishkek. The participants discussed the development of the education sector and considered the proposals for enhancing capacities in this area, the press office of the Jogurku Kenesh reported to CentralAsia.news.

Minister of Education and Science Ulanbek Mambetakunov stated that the budget of the Ministry for 2023 and 2024-2025 is about 52.7 billion soms (about $604.3 million). Another 7 billion soms (about $81.3 million) will be spent in specific areas.

Speaker of the Parliament Nurlanbek Shakiev noted that the authorities are doing everything they can to develop the education system. He urged the Ministry of Education and Science to remove the irrelevant subjects from the school curriculum, promote multilingual education and provide vocational guidance to 5-9 grades schoolchildren.

A parliamentarian Aybek Osmonov proposed increasing the school meal amount from 7 to 20 soms. A parliamentarian Nurbek Alimbekov proposed using social networks and video platforms to popularize learning games and animated movies in the state language.
