President Mirziyoyev holds meeting on power supply issues

The President focused on the development prospects of the hydropower sector.

On January 19, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting on the development of Uzbekistan’s hydropower industry, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reported.

The development indicators of Uzbekistan’s hydropower industry in recent years, as well as the plans aimed at building up capacities of hydropower facilities were presented at the meeting.

This year, new facilities will be built, including micro hydropower plants. According to preliminary estimates, these facilities will allow increasing electricity generation by 675 million kilowatt-hours and saving up to 200 million cubic metres of natural gas.

The President focused on the possibilities of profitably selling wind and solar energy. It is planned to build hybrid (solar-wind) power plants in the vicinity of the hydropower plant. The availability of ready-to-use infrastructure will allow reducing construction costs of these hybrid power plants.

President Mirziyoyev instructed Suvsanoatmash Joint Stock Company to start production of equipment for micro hydropower plants.

The participants of the meeting emphasised the need to use all available reserves to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the population.
