Turkmenistan notes importance of creating Regional Center for Climate Technology

The topic was raised by the head of the MFA Rashid Meredov and UNEP Director Andersen.

Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov held online talks with Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) Inger Andersen. They discussed issues of further partnership. It was reported to CentralAsia.news by the press office of the ministry.

One of the topics raised during the virtual meeting was the establishment of the Regional Center for Climate Technology for the countries of Central Asia in the capital of Turkmenistan. The initiative was earlier put forward by Ashgabat. Meredov noted its importance.

The center will be focused on the implementation of climate approaches in the respective states and will contribute to the technological development of Central Asia in the field of climate change.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Executive Director of UNEP also discussed projects to adapt the Caspian Sea to long-term changes in average climate indicators, the development of a spatial planning of the Turkmen part of the Caspian Sea, and the creation of a new United Nations Caspian Ecological Program.
