Kazakhstan calls for growth of trade and logistics projects at CIS forum

Tokayev characterised the use of the potential of the North-South corridor, in particular the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway, as an important aspect of development.

On December 26, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev put forward the urgent proposals on the long-term development of joint areas during the informal meeting of the CIS leaders in the northern capital of Russia, the press office of Akorda reported.

The Kazakh leader highlighted the importance of ensuring the dynamics of intra-regional trade and acclimatising the economic policy to modern realities.

The Kazakh leader called on his counterparts to concert efforts to create the most acceptable conditions for trade and economic cooperation. He urged to work out in detail the general «instructions» on simplifying tariff and other barriers, reduce protectionism and improve cooperation for food security.

In this context, the President emphasised that the CIS Ministerial Conference, which will take place in Astana in 2023, should accelerate the development of common approaches in this sphere.

Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev highlighted the need to accelerate the development of new tools and schemes of cooperation aimed at improving the efficiency of regional transport and logistics projects within the CIS. The President urged to build this work on the constructive prospects of the North-South transnational corridor, an important section of which is the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway.
