Oveniyazova: in Turkmenistan census will contribute to cultural development

The art critic noted that the campaign provided unique and accurate information about the citizens of the state.
In an interview to CentralAsia.news, Elmira Oveniyazova, a teacher at the Danatar Ovezov State Special Music School, underlined the importance of the population and housing census for the development of the cultural sector of Turkmenistan.

Oveniyazova noted that this large-scale campaign took place in the state on December 17-27, 2022. In her opinion, this event made it possible to obtain unique and accurate information about the citizens of Turkmenistan, as well as to determine the key directions for the further socio-economic development of the country.

The art historian expressed confidence that the updated statistics will make it possible to analyze the population’s need for social infrastructure facilities, the relevance of the development and modernization of cultural facilities in the country — clubs, libraries, theaters, music and educational centers.

The musicologist noted that the UN Statistical Division and Population Fund provided special equipment and assistance to Turkmenistan in the preparation and conduct of the census. In addition, the experts of the international organization gave a number of recommendations to the Turkmen specialists, who helped to hold the event in accordance with world standards.

Elmira Oveniyazova concluded that the population and housing census, organized by the government of Turkmenistan using modern technologies and international principles, is aimed at transparency and reliability of its preliminary and final results.
