President of Uzbekistan highlights need to increase number of buses in capital city

The President visited one of the bus depots in Tashkent to inspect the current situation in the public transportation system of the capital city.

On December 13, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has visited one of the bus depots in Tashkent and discussed with representatives of the transport organisations the problems of public transport in the capital city, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reports.

According to the data, up to 1.3 million people use bus transport in Tashkent every day, 142 bus routes run on the city roads; 277 new buses and electric buses were put into operation this year. However, the Toshshahartranskhizmat Joint-Stock Company is unable to fully meet the demand for city public transport services.

At present, on average 90-100 buses less than normal run on the routes. Passengers have to await the arrival of their bus for 20-30 minutes. The President emphasised that this situation is unacceptable in cold weather.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed to switch to an enhanced mode of operation and provide additional buses on the most popular routes as soon as possible.

It is planned to attract private public transport to improve the situation on the roads; the state will subsidize partially their costs. The bus drivers’ wages will be increased.

The public transport development projects in Tashkent were presented to the President. It is planned to increase the number of bus routes from 142 to 167, which will require up to 1,000 high-capacity buses. These measures will decrease wait times for buses to 7-10 minutes.
