Uzbekistan and China to promote partnerships for poverty reduction

A meeting between representatives of ministries and departments of Uzbekistan and the Chinese delegation focused on poverty reduction.

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction of Uzbekistan Jamshid Kuchkarov met with Vice Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China Hu Chunhua in Tashkent, the press office of the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan reported.

Minister of Finance Timur Ishmetov, First Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction Ilkhom Norkulov, Deputy Minister of Agriculture Shukhrat Mirzaev, Ambassador of China to Uzbekistan Jiang Yan, Deputy Secretary-General of the State Council Guo Wei and Vice Chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission Lian Weiliang took part in the talks on cooperation on poverty reduction.

The parties exchanged views on state measures to eradicate poverty, the poverty rates and lines and the work conducted by government officials to reduce poverty among local populations.

An initiative was put forward to set up the Subcommittee on Cooperation on Poverty Reduction and hold its first meeting in Uzbekistan next year.

The participants noted the importance of studying China’s experience in eliminating poverty (in 2021, China was one of the first countries in the world to declare a complete victory over absolute poverty, this achievement was recognized by a number of international organisations, including the UN).
