Tajikistan and OSCE sign Memorandum of Understanding

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan and the Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe considered promoting bilateral relations.

On December 2, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan Sirojiddin Muhriddin held talks with OSCE Secretary General Helga Schmid during his working trip to Lodz to participate in the 29th Ministerial Council of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, the press office of the Ministry reported to CentralAsia.news.

The interlocutors discussed major issues of further mutually beneficial cooperation, including the situation in the region and Afghanistan, the fight against terrorism, extremism and other cross-border crimes, as well as cooperation on water and climate issues.

The bilateral talks resulted in the signing a Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Tajikistan and the OSCE on the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe.

Addressing the 29th Ministerial Council, Mukhriddin called on to expand relations among the OSCE participating States in the political, economic, environmental and the social spheres. He emphasised the importance of taking joint measures to strengthen security in the OSCE region.
