President of Uzbekistan meets with UNESCO Director-General

The talks focused on the prospects for promoting cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UN agency.

On November 15, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Audrey Azoulay to discuss the prospects of cultural and humanitarian cooperation, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reports.

The UNESCO Director-General arrived in Tashkent to participate in the World Conference on Early Childhood Care and Education. The Uzbek leader and the UNESCO Director-General noted the high level of partnerships. Joint projects are implemented on a regular basis under the Country Programme and the interaction roadmap.

UNESCO experts have assessed the cultural heritage of Uzbekistan – the art of baghshi and the Lazgi folk dance are included in the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage. Uzbekistan actively cooperates with UNESCO in the protection of historical heritage sites.

The UNESCO Director-General highly evaluated ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan in the field of youth education support and children’s education.

The interlocutors agreed to open a UNESCO Regional Centre in Tashkent and adopt a new implementation roadmap for joint projects.
