Tajikistan and United States to expand climate change cooperation

An exchange of views on the global initiatives of the two countries and ways to implement them took place.

Chairman of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of Tajikistan Bahodur Sheralizoda met with Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry on the sidelines of COP 27 in Egypt. They considered promoting bilateral cooperation on climate change and environmental protection, the press office of the Committee reported to CentralAsia.news.

The Tajik politician informed his interlocutor about the current international initiatives of the Republic on climate change, water and environment issues. Special attention was paid to the proposal of the Tajik side to declare 2025 the International Year for the Protection of Glaciers.

Kerry emphasised the importance of the global initiatives of Tajikistan on climate change and water issues. He also spoke about the initiative of the European Union and the United States – the Global Methane Pledge that aims to cut global methane emissions by 30 per cent by 2030.
