Construction on Tashkent Olympic Village starts

Uzbek leader Shavkat Mirziyoyev took part in the ground-breaking ceremony.

On November 9, a solemn ground-breaking ceremony of the Olympic Village took place in the capital of Uzbekistan. President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev took part in the ceremony, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reports.

Director General of the Olympic Council of Asia Hussein Al-Musallam, President of the Asian Paralympic Committee Majid Rashed, President at CAMC Engineering Li Haixin, Chairman of the Council of Veterans of Sports Organizations of Uzbekistan Bahodir Makhsitov and renowned Uzbek athletes attended the ceremony.

The Olympic Village will host the Asian Youth Games and the Asian Youth Para Games in 2025. Athletes from 45 Asian countries are expected to arrive in Tashkent to compete in 20 sports.

The future Olympic facility will occupy an area of 100 hectares. It will house a stadium with a seating capacity of 10,000 for football matches and athletics events, a water sports palace, 6 indoor and 7 outdoor sports complexes, a cycle track, a martial arts complex and other sporting facilities.

After closing the Asian Youth Games, the Olympic Village facilities will be used for their intended purpose – they will host training sessions and competitions of Uzbek athletes, including the Uzbekistan Olympic team and house the Ministry of Sports Development, sports federations and the State Academy of Sports.
