President of Kazakhstan solemnly puts into operation new gas chemical giant

The production capacity of the modern enterprise will be 500,000 tonnes of polypropylene per year.

On November 8, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev put into operation a new integrated gas chemical plant of Kazakhstan Petrochemical Industries Inc. LLP in Atyrau Region, the press office of Akorda reported.

The large industrial facility will receive hydrocarbon feedstock from the Tengiz field. The production capacity of the new high-tech site is 500,000 tonnes of polypropylene per year. This figure accounts for 1% of global polypropylene production.

The latest Catofin and Novolen technologies from the American company Lummus Technology Inc. have been selected for the manufacturing process. The local specialists emphasised that only 5 developed countries of the world have such enterprises, including Saudi Arabia, the United States, Belgium, China and South Korea.

Chairman of the Board of KazMunayGas NC Magzum Mirzagaliyev informed the Kazakh leader that 4,300 specialists were involved in construction works on the facility. The facility will create more than 630 new permanent jobs.

Mirzagaliyev noted that the enterprise will not only meet domestic demand, but also expand the scope of activity of small and medium-sized enterprises that produce high-demand products from propylene for many industries.
