Regional industrial development issues in Uzbekistan discussed

The development prospects of the industrial sector in the regions were discussed via videoconference.

On November 7, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting via videoconference on the development prospects of the industrial sector in the regions, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reports.

Noting the achievements of the industrial sector, the President focused on the shortcomings. 65 regional enterprises have reduced production, more than a hundred industrial zones lack necessary infrastructure and the opportunities provided under the GSP programme are not fully used to facilitate exports. 6% of textiles, 3% of electrical products and 1% of food products are exported to Europe.

Next year, it is planned to adopt a programme aimed at increasing Uzbek exports to exceed $5 billion. A credit support programme for construction material manufacturers will be developed. New enterprises that will manufacture construction materials will be set up in Bulakbashi, Karaulbazar, Farish, Chust, Pakhtachi, Saryasiya and Uzbekistan districts and in Karakalpakstan, and an enterprise that will manufacture porcelain and sanitary ware will be construction in Angren.

The President proposed setting up furniture enterprises in Bukhara, Namangan, Samarkand, Andijan, Fergana and Khorezm; customs privileges for furniture manufacturers will be extended until 2024.

It is planned to support jewellery enterprises and private jewellers and abolish the licenses for temporary raw materials imports and exports, as well as customs duties on precious and semi-precious stones.

“We will boost exports next year. From now on, there will be a system that envisages providing subsidies to industries depending on their export volume. Following today’s meeting, an additional $300 million and 350 billion soums will be allocated to enhance the development of industries in the regions,” the President said.
