Russia calls Turkmenistan one of most important and closest partners

Parliament delegations from of Russia and Turkmenistan discussed further activities within the Inter-Parliamentary Commission.

On November 2, Deputy Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan Kasymguly Babayev met with Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council of Russia Konstantin Kosachev. The Turkmen delegation headed by Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov arrived in Moscow for an official visit, the press office of the Federation Council of Russia reports.

Kosachev noted that Russia-Turkmenistan inter-parliamentary cooperation is becoming more active, regular and effective.

This is illustrated by the agreement on the Inter-Parliamentary Commission on Cooperation signed by the Federation Council of Russia and the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan on November 1, he said.

Kosachev stressed that the Federation Council concludes such agreements only with the closest and most important partners.

The parties highlighted the need to boost relationships between the regions of the two countries. 60 subjects of Russia maintain contacts with Turkmenistan. Babayev stated that there are the prospects of partnership between the parliaments.

The participants agreed that now Russia and Turkmenistan are interacting effectively in international formats. Particularly, within the CIS, the Central Asia+ Russia Dialogue, the Caspian Five and the UN.
