Tajikistan launches pneumococcal vaccination in children

According to the new immunization schedule, babies will receive 3 doses of the vaccine up to 1 year of age: at 2, 4 and 12 months of age.

The Ministry of Health of Tajikistan has adopted the decision to introduce the pneumococcal vaccine into the National Immunization Schedule to reduce severe cases of meningitis, sepsis and pneumonia in young children. In accordance with this decision, the pneumococcal vaccination in children will start on November 1 with the support of the WHO Country Office, the Khovar State News Agency reported.

According to the new immunization schedule, babies will receive 3 doses of the vaccine up to 1 year of age: at 2, 4 and 12 months of age. In this regard, the Ministry of Health of Tajikistan calls on citizens to begin recommended vaccination in children born on September 1, 2022 and children who turn 2 months old in November.

The Ministry reported that the VPK-10 vaccine has been prequalified by the World Health Organization and will protect children from the 10 most common pneumococcal serotypes. More than 273,000 doses of the 10-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine Synflorix were delivered to Tajikistan to vaccinate children.
