Parliamentarians from CIS Member States have met in Samarkand

The CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly discussed social and political cooperation in various spheres.

Samarkand hosted a series of meetings of the autumn session of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly aimed at strengthening cooperation in key areas in late October, the press office of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan reported.

More than 500 participants took part in the events, including representatives of the parliaments of the CIS Member States, experts, political scientists, members of public organisations, as well as the heads of the parliaments of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Tajikistan and the Speaker of the lower house of the Parliament of Turkmenistan.

The participants discussed new draft laws on culture, education, sports and tourism at the autumn session and considered almost two dozen of model laws on security, science and education at the plenary session.

The participants of the IPA session held a series of thematic meetings on politics and international cooperation, agricultural industry, ecology and resources, culture, sports and tourism.

Chairperson of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva and the heads of parliamentary delegations from the CIS Member States, including Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Maulen Ashimbayev and Chairman of Mejlis of Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan Gulshat Mammedova held meetings on the sidelines of the IPA session.

The session hosted the 19th session of the CIS Youth Inter-Parliamentary Assembly.
