European Union to offer specific cooperation projects to Kyrgyzstan

The interlocutors discussed important areas and measures to build up further contacts at a meeting in Astana.

On October 27, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov met with President of the European Council Charles Michel in the capital of Kazakhstan. The interlocutors discussed the current state and prospects of Kyrgyzstan-EU cooperation in the trade, economic, political and cultural spheres, the press office of the President of Kyrgyzstan reports.

Japarov stressed the need to build up bilateral relations and the importance of visiting EU institutions and signing an Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between Kyrgyzstan and the EU.

He also discussed the extension of the GSP+ status of Kyrgyzstan, given the importance of intensifying trade and economic relations and promoting the export of Kyrgyz goods to the European market.

Michel said the European Union is ready to offer specific cooperation projects to Kyrgyzstan, noting that the EU views cooperation with Central Asia as one of the key areas.

As was reported, the Kyrgyz leader arrived in Astana for a working visit. He will take part in the First Central Asia-European Union Summit.
