Prime Minister calls for tough counteraction to domestic violence

The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that police departments throughout the country have received about 100,000 domestic violence complaints in 2022.

On October 18, Chairman of the Government of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov held a meeting to discuss such important issues as domestic violence in Kazakh society, the press office of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan reported to CentralAsia.news.

Minister of Internal Affairs Marat Akhmetzhanov reported that this year the law enforcement departments in the capital city and the regions have received about 100,000 domestic violence complaints. In accordance with the instructions of the President of Kazakhstan, the Ministry toughened counteraction to this negative social phenomenon. Along with the complaint mechanism, a package of preventive measures has been introduced, as well as the punishment for such offenses has been tightened up, Akhmetzhanov emphasised.

Commenting on the report, the Prime Minister instructed to use more widely social networks and the media to stir up public intolerance towards domestic violence. The Chairman of the Government emphasised the expediency of conducting a wide awareness raising campaign to promote family values.

The Ministry of Education was tasked to conduct classes in schools that would embed respect for the family, family rules and behaviour at home in the minds of children. The task was set to expand the crisis support network for victims of domestic violence.
