Tokayev receives Commissioner for Human Rights

The human rights activist said the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe positively evaluates ongoing legal and political reforms in the country.

On October 17, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev held a working meeting with Chairman of the Commission on Human Rights under the President Igor Rogov, who reported on ongoing large-scale work in this sphere, the press office of Akorda reported to CentralAsia.news.

Rogov informed that the Commission had reviewed the activities of the government agencies, whose statutory aim is to protect human rights. In this regard, measures to prevent the unlawful use of force by law enforcement and special agencies were discussed.

The President urged to keep it in mind that strict observance of human rights is the crucial aspect of the state strategy, and the Constitution of the Republic sets forth that human life is the highest value.

Rogov reported on the activities of the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe, at which he serves as Representative of Kazakhstan and President of the Sub-committee on Ombudsman Institutions. He said the Venice Commission positively evaluates ongoing legal and political reforms in Kazakhstan.
