President of Uzbekistan reviews development plans of electric automobile industry

It is planned to launch domestic production of electric vehicles and increase the number of charging stations and vehicle service centres in the country.

On October 10, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed the projects aimed at developing the electric automobile industry and expanding electric vehicle services, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reports.

The representatives of the Uzavtosanoat Joint-Stock Company briefed the President on the industry development plans. The Uzbek leader was informed about the agreements for the production of certain EV models and the plans to increase the number of electric charging stations and improve access to components and spare parts.

The President noted that electric vehicles are gaining popularity among citizens of the Republic, as they are easy to operate and maintain and environmentally friendly. However, there is a shortage of charging stations in the country, which are located mainly in Tashkent and Samarkand, and there are no vehicle service centres. These issues need to be addressed, President Mirziyoyev emphasised.

The Uzbek leader highlighted the importance of improving affordability of electric vehicles for citizens of the country. This can be done through launching domestic production of batteries and electric transmitters, which will allow reducing the cost of an electric vehicle.

The participants also discussed the tasks of training specialists for the industry. The President was informed about the plans to set up an electric vehicle laboratory at the Turin Polytechnic University and train specialists in such global centres of electric vehicle manufacturing as Germany, the United States, South Korea and China.
