Uzbekistan to attract Spanish tourists to Samarkand Region

The Uzbek diplomats met with a representative of the UNESCO Silk Roads Programme in Spain.

A meeting with President of the UNESCO Silk Roads Programme in Spain José María Chiquillo Barber took place at the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Spain. The lively discussion focused on the prospects for developing tourism infrastructure in Samarkand Region and attracting tourists from Spain to this region of Uzbekistan, the press office of the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan reported.

The Spanish side evaluated the work being done in Uzbekistan to promote tourism and attract foreign tourists to the country. Recently, the opening ceremony of the Silk Road Samarkand International Tourist Complex with several four- and five-star hotels, a congress centre and a caravanserai took place on the banks of the rowing canal in Samarkand Region.

With the aim to stir the interest of foreign visitors in the historical region of Uzbekistan, the Samarkand airport switched to an open skies regime, which allows receiving flights from all over the world.

With the aim to promote cooperation in the tourism industry, the parties agreed to hold presentations of tourism opportunities in Samarkand with a national food fair and an exhibition of folk arts and crafts for major travel companies, the media and the public in Valencia in November this year.
