Japarov and CSTO Secretary General discuss situation on Kyrgyz-Tajik border

The Prime Minister emphasised that the Kyrgyz side is seeking to resolve disputes by political and diplomatic means.

On October 4, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic Akylbek Japarov received Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Stanislav Zas. The Prime Minister noted that since its foundation, the role of the CSTO among the international regional organisations for security has been significantly strengthened and increased, the press office of the Government of Kyrgyzstan reports.

He informed the interlocutor about the recent armed incident on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, noting that shelling had destroyed infrastructure facilities in the border villages of Batken Region, killed civilians and military personnel and wounded hundreds of local citizens.

Japarov added that Kyrgyzstan has always been, is and will be supporting a peaceful settlement of all issues.

The CSTO Secretary General expressed condolences over the tragedy and highly evaluated the clear intention of the Kyrgyz side to resolve issues by political and diplomatic means.

Zas informed Japarov about the preparations for the next CSTO session scheduled to take place in Armenia.
