UNDP to deepen cooperation with Kyrgyzstan on green economy matters

The UNDP Administrator emphasised the readiness to help Kyrgyzstan reconstruct damaged facilities in Batken Region.

On September 21, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov met with Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme Achim Steiner during his visit to New York to participate in the 77th Session of the UN General Assembly. The interlocutors focused on the support for Kyrgyzstan in promoting reforms and implementing its international initiatives, the press office of the President of Kyrgyzstan reports.

The President noted the importance of implementing a support programme in such spheres as economy, food security and sustainable development, particularly the development of mountainous regions.

Japarov said Kyrgyzstan is taking measures to address the problem of rapid glacier shrinkage and implementing the programmes for the conservation of mountain ecosystems.

Achim Steiner expressed his condolences to Japarov over the casualties in the clashes on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, noting that UNDP is ready to provide all possible assistance in reconstructing damaged social facilities.

The UNDP Administrator proposed to deepen cooperation with Kyrgyzstan on green economy matters and assured of the intention to continue fruitful cooperation with the Kyrgyz side.
