UN sends commission to Kyrgyzstan to identify needs of affected populations

The UN has set up an ad-hoc group to provide humanitarian assistance to the affected populations of Kyrgyzstan.

On September 19, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Aybek Moldogaziyev met with UN Resident Coordinator in Kyrgyzstan Antje Grawe to discuss the current situation in the region. Moldogaziyev informed the UN official about the armed conflict on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, including casualties and damages caused by the border clash, the press office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan reports.

Grawe informed that the UN has set up an ad-hoc group to coordinate emergency response operations and provide humanitarian assistance to the affected populations of Kyrgyzstan.

She also informed about the actions taken by the UN Country Office to alleviate the suffering of the civilian population.

It was noted that a UN assessment commission will soon arrive in Kyrgyzstan to assess the basic needs of the evacuated citizens of Kyrgyzstan.

Antje Grawe expressed the UN’s readiness to continue to cooperate with the government agencies of Kyrgyzstan to restore normal life in the affected areas of Batken Region.
