Rahmon and Guterres discuss ways to strengthen Tajik-Afghan border

The interlocutors also discussed the current state and prospects of bilateral cooperation.

On September 1, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres discussed the prospects of bilateral cooperation during a telephone conversation, the press office of the President of Tajikistan reports.

The interlocutors discussed the challenges to sustainable development, peace, stability and regional security.

Discussing the situation in Afghanistan, they focused on strengthening the border of Tajikistan with this country and continuing to provide humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people.

“The UN Secretary-General highly evaluated the pragmatic policy and position of Tajikistan in finding ways to address pressing issues of the regional and international agenda,” the press office reports.

This is the second telephone conversation between Rahmon and Guterres over the last week. The previous telephone conversation took place on August 26.

The interlocutors noted that the international community should continue to provide humanitarian assistance to the people of Afghanistan and not leave them alone in the current difficult situation.
