Leaders of Uzbekistan and Germany hold telephone conversation

The conversation focused on the current state and prospects of bilateral cooperation in the trade, economic, humanitarian and financial sectors.

On August 29, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a telephone conversation with President of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reported.

The President of Germany congratulated Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the Uzbek people on the 31st anniversary of independence. Mr. Steinmeier highly evaluated and expressed his support for the ongoing economic and social reforms in Uzbekistan.

An exchange of views on the prospects of cooperation in key areas took place.

The interlocutors noted the high level of Uzbekistan-Germany relations in the trade, economic, financial, technical and humanitarian sectors. Trade increased by an average of 60 percent in less than a year; more than 200 German companies operate in Uzbekistan; Knauf, Papenburg and Falk Porsche opened its factories in the country.

24 joint projects are being implemented in the high-tech sectors of Uzbek economy; the activities of the German public organisations and associations, including the Goethe Institute, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and Friedrich Ebert Foundation, are encouraged.

Uzbekistan and Germany continue cooperation within the European Union, as well as in establishing peace and stability in Afghanistan.
