The national experts of SDG Working Group of Turkmenistan and representatives of the United Nations agencies discussed the steps for developing the second Voluntary National Review (VNR) of the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals in the country, as reported by «Golden Age».
The review will be presented at the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development in June next year.
The meeting included the discussion of creation of the Joint Inter-ministerial Working Group. The VNR will include the following goals: 1 (no poverty), 2 (zero hunger), 3 (good health and well-being), 4 (quality education), 5 (gender equality) and 13 (climate action). They will be added to goals — 6 (clean water and sanitation), 7 (affordable and clean energy), 9 (industry innovation and infrastructure), 11 (sustainable cities and communities) and 13.
The participants of the meeting also discussed creation of the National Action Plan for the development of nationalized SDG indicators. The document will indicate what kind of activities will be carried out for each indicator in Turkmenistan, timeframes and indicative budget.
It must be added that Turkmenistan pays great attention to the formation of a healthy lifestyle among its citizens. Mass bike rides are held every year. On June 3 this year, on World Bicycle Day, a cycling marathon was held. President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov was the leading participant of the event.
The country guarantees the equality of women and men in all sectors of life. The state creates all the necessary conditions for young citizens to receive modern education. In March of this year, the United Nations Development Program and Turkmenistan signed a new project to save the Aral Sea. Scientist Allaberdi Ilyasov noted that water diplomacy is one of the priorities of the foreign policy of the Central Asian country.
The economy of Turkmenistan demonstrates stable development every year. Analyst Yuri Aronsky said that the authorities of the state take effective measures within import replacement, expansion of exports, and increase of gas production. Salaries are growing by 10% annually.
