Rahmon and Putin discuss aspects of Tajik-Russian friendship

The leaders of Tajikistan and Russia raised this issue during a telephone conversation.

On August 23, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon had a telephone conversation with the leader of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin. The interlocutors discussed key aspects of friendly interaction between the two countries, the press office of the President of Tajikistan reported.

The two leaders exchanged views on the current state of cooperation and considered the vectors for further Tajikistan-Russia partnerships, based on mutual trust. They focused on issues of regional interaction. Rahmon and Putin emphasised the importance of ensuring security, including on the territory of Afghanistan.

The agenda of the telephone conversation also covered various events, including the Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, which is to be held in Samarkand in September this year.

As was reported, Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Nikolai Patrushev and Secretary of the Security Council of Tajikistan Nasrullo Mahmudzoda held a meeting in Tashkent last week. The talks focused on the situation in Afghanistan. The officials expressed their concern about the economic crisis in this country and specified further steps to enhance partnerships against terrorism.

Earlier, a political expert Igor Dubovsky explained why Moscow is a valuable partner of Dushanbe.
