Berdimuhamedov offers to increase role of landlocked countries in transport

The president of Turkmenistan raised the topic at the international conference in «Avaza».

On August 15, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov took part in the Ministerial Transport Conference of Landlocked Developing Countries, which was held in the tourist zone «Avaza». He came up with a number of initiatives in the relevant direction, as reported by «Turkmenistan today».

Berdimuhamedov proposed to form a special UN working group on defending the interests of landlocked countries in transport. The head of the state also put forward an initiative to develop a General Assembly resolution aimed at increasing the role of the respective states in developing global transport partnerships.

The leader of Turkmenistan stressed that the future belongs to the combined transport system. According to him, the transport segment is the driving force behind the development of the global economy.

It must be added that within the forum, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov met with the head of the minister of energy and infrastructure of the UAE Suhail Al Mazroui. They discussed the possibilities to launch transport and logistics routes, intensify the partnership of the Turkmenbashi International Seaport with the ports of Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and integrate the Turkmenbashi port into the world system of seaports.
