Internal affairs divisions of Kazakhstan have detained over 570 online scammers

Total cost of damage done by these criminals to citizens of Kazakhstan is estimated at about 7 billion tenge.

On August 15, a briefing took place at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan.   An official representative of the Ministry Shugyla Turlybek informed that 12,000 online scams had been committed in the country over the past seven months, the Kazinform News Agency reported.

The law enforcement officer informed that cybercriminals caused damage to citizens and organisations amounting to 7 billion tenge. In general, the divisions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs have detained more than 570 people and stopped illegal activities of 17 criminal groups.

In geographical terms, the largest number of online scams were committed in the densely populated cities and regions. 2,295 scams were reported in Nur-Sultan, 1,486 scams in Almaty and 1,150 scams in Karaganda Region, the law enforcement officer said.

The official representative of the Ministry called on citizens of Kazakhstan to be vigilant, as criminals are looking for any methods and means to obtain their personal information which they use to steal money from their bank cards and deposits.
