Ways of development of Uzbekistan’s metallurgical industry discussed

The President of Uzbekistan held a meeting to discuss the achievements and ways of development of Uzbekistan’s metallurgical industry.

Last week, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting via videoconference to evaluate the development of Uzbekistan’s metallurgical industry, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reported.

The meeting took place on the territory of the Uzbek metallurgical plant in Bekabad town. The khokims of the regions, representatives of mining and metallurgical plants and Uzbek and foreign entrepreneurs took part in the meeting.

The meeting focused on the achievements of the metallurgical industry over the years of independence and future tasks.

In recent years, 200 new metallurgical enterprises that created more than 25,000 new jobs have been set up. Last year, metallurgical production reached more than 16 trillion soums, and the production of iron and iron products increased by 1.8 times.

As reported, the metallurgical industry processes up to 4 million tonnes of ferrous metal per year, however the demand for ferrous metal will increase by about 1.5 times by 2026, which will necessitate boosting the development of ferrous metal smelting.

The President of Uzbekistan outlined four main points for development of the industry. Firstly, metallurgical enterprises must be supplied with raw materials, and secondly, metallurgical enterprises need to be set up throughout the country. Measures should be taken to increase the production of metal structures for enterprises that manufacture high-value products, train specialists and adopt innovative technologies.
