Uzbekistan to fully resume road transport operations with Turkmenistan

Muminov emphasised that the transport corridors running through the port of Turkmenbashi are important for the entire region and cooperation in this sphere needs to be boosted.

The Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan working group on transport held a meeting. The Uzbek delegation was headed by Deputy Minister of Transport Abdusamat Muminov, and the Turkmen delegation was headed by Deputy Chairman of the Turkmenavtoulaglary Agency Vepa Hojanepesov. The main issues under discussion included the resumption of road transport operations between the two countries. Muminov emphasised that the transport corridors running through the port of Turkmenbashi are important for the entire region and cooperation in this sphere needs to be boosted, the press office of the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan reported to CentralAsia.news.

The parties considered easing the requirements to freight transportation. In particular, the Deputy Minister proposed to simplify the requirements and reduce the time required to issue entry visas to neighbouring Turkmenistan for Uzbek drivers involved in international road transport operations.

The parties considered intensifying bilateral cooperation in creating transport routes, which will enable to significantly increase rail and road freight volumes.

They also considered increasing passenger traffic between the two countries, as well as using the Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Oman transport corridor.

As was reported, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev proposed to create joint logistics companies with Pakistan and Turkmenistan and develop optimal export routes for entrepreneurs, which will allow reducing losses in transportation.
