UN is to help Kyrgyzstan implement projects to achieve SDGs

The Minister of Foreign Affairs informed the UN representative about the work being done by Kyrgyzstan to promote the initiatives to conserve mountain ecosystems.

On August 9, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Zheenbek Kulubaev received newly appointed UN Resident Coordinator in Kyrgyzstan Kristin Antje Grawe. The meeting began with presenting the letters of credence of Kristin Antje Grawe as United Nations Resident Coordinator in Kyrgyzstan, the press office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan reports.

The interlocutors discussed aspects of Kyrgyzstan-UN cooperation.

Kulubaev informed about the work being done by Kyrgyzstan to promote the initiatives on sustainable mountain development and conservation of mountain ecosystems. In particular, he noted the UN adopted the Resolutions “Nature Knows No Boundaries” and "International Year of Sustainable Mountain Development, 2022” at the initiative of Kyrgyzstan.

The UN Resident Coordinator highlighted the importance of these initiatives, noting that the United Nations is ready to continue to implement the projects in Kyrgyzstan to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

In accordance with the Decree of President Sadyr Japarov, Kyrgyzstan declared 2022 as the Year of Conservation of Mountain Ecosystems and Climate Resilience for the Preservation of Natural Heritage.
