Secretary-General of Gulf Cooperation Council visits Tashkent

The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan received the GCC Secretary-General to consider promoting Uzbekistan-Gulf states partnerships.

On August 4, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norov met with Secretary-General of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC) Nayef Falah Mubarak Al Hajraf, the press office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.

The interlocutors noted the intensification of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the Persian Gulf states in a wide range of areas. The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and the GCC Secretary-General exchanged views on the progress of the implementation of the agreements under the Memorandum of Understanding on mutual consultation mechanism, which the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Secretariat General of the Gulf Cooperation Council signed last year.

The GCC Secretary-General emphasised that the Gulf Cooperation Council views Uzbekistan as one of the regional leaders and highly evaluates ongoing economic and social reforms in the country. Uzbekistan and the Persian Gulf states need to continue cooperation to make full use of the existing potential.

The participants discussed the upcoming events, including the first meeting of the Strategic Dialogue “Central Asia-Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf”, and the outcomes of the International Conference on Afghanistan, which had been held recently in Tashkent.
