Development issues of cotton industry discussed in Tashkent

The leader of Uzbekistan listened to reports on the current situation in the industry and instructed to increase crop productivity.

On July 27, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting on the development of Uzbekistan’s cotton industry, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reports.

Cotton growing is a key sector of Uzbekistan’s agricultural sector. At the initiative of the President, the industry has switched to the cluster development system, which enabled to open nearly 350 new enterprises and increase the percentage of processed products from 40 (five years ago) to 100%.

The President noted that the unprecedented high summer temperatures this year had the negative impacts on cotton production. Every effort should be made to mitigate the impacts and adopt science-based approaches to seed production, fertilization, irrigation and pest control.

The President commented on the report on Minister of Innovative Development and Chairman of the Cotton Growing Council Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov who reported on the results of inspection trips to the cotton fields in a number of regions. The Minister reported that some problems have been revealed, which will affect the future harvest.

Commenting on the reports of the Minister and khokims of the regions, the President instructed to take care of crops, increase crop productivity and comply with schedule in all regions.
