Chairman of Committee for Nature Protection of Tajikistan reminds about triple crisis

Bahodur Sherilizoda raised this issue in his speech at the UN High-Level Thematic Debate entitled a “Moment for Nature”.

President of the 76th Session of the UN General Assembly Abdulla Shahid chaired the High-Level Thematic Debate entitled a “Moment for Nature” at the UN Headquarters. The Tajik delegation was headed by Chairman of the Committee for Environmental Protection Bahodur Sheralizoda, the press office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan reports.

The High-Level Thematic Debate aims at studying interconnected environmental threats that hinder the efforts to achieve sustainable development. Sheralizoda reminded the participants about the three global environmental challenges, namely climate change, biodiversity loss and nature pollution.

He also informed foreign representatives about the measures taken by Tajikistan to prevent an environmental catastrophe in the country.

Speaking at the press conference, Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Environmental Protection Zarafo Kiyomzoda emphasised that Tajikistan is not able to stop glaciers melting, noting that over 30 years it has lost over 1,000 glaciers.
