Tokayev urges Central Asian leaders to take up issues relating to security

The Kazakh leader emphasised that Central Asia should become a vast zone of social and economic development and multifaceted cooperation.

On July 21, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev addressed the Central Asian leaders at the Consultative Meeting in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan. A cross-cutting theme of his speech was a call to foster cooperation on regional security, the press office of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan reported to CentralAsia.news.

The Kazakh leader emphasised that Central Asia should turn into a vast zone of sustainable social and economic development, cooperation at various levels and rule of peace and prosperity.

In this context, the President of Kazakhstan called on the Central Asian leaders to make every possible effort to eliminate the remaining factors affecting conflicts in the region.

“It is under current crisis conditions that the Central Asia states need to set an example of a civilized and responsible search for solutions to all contradictions. Experience shows that the legal cases of border demarcation are very complicated and thorny. Nevertheless, controversial issues can be resolved peacefully only in the spirit of genuine good neighbourliness and respect for the international law concepts,” Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev stressed.

The Kazakh leader said Kazakhstan is ready to assist in searching for and developing mutually acceptable solutions.
