On July 11, the head of the Halk Maslakhaty of Milli Gengesh (one of the chambers of parliament) of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov had a phone conversation with the head of parliament of Turkey Mustafa Shentop. They discussed strengthening inter-parliamentary ties. It was reported by the news agency «Turkmenistan today».
The officials exchanged congratulations on the occasion of Kurban Bayram. They stressed that the Islamic holiday of the end of the Hajj will make an important contribution to deepening cooperation between the countries.
Berdimuhamedov and Shentop paid special attention to the fact that the partnership between Turkmenistan and Turkey has great potential at the level of parliaments. They marked the importance of organizing meetings of deputies and expanding the exchange of experience between the relevant officials.
In April this year, the chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty was elected a member of the Council of Elders of the Organization of Turkic States. Representatives of the organization noted that Berdimuhamedov will strengthen cooperation between Ashgabat and the Turkic world in politics, economy, culture and in the humanitarian sphere.
