Nikolai Kim declares high capability of air defence systems to protect Tajikistan

The Military Attaché at the RF embassy said soon the S-300s would be transferred to the Armed Forces of Tajikistan.

The roundtable “CSTO as an important factor in ensuring regional security” was held at the Russian-Tajik (Slavonic) University. The participants in the event included Military Attaché at the RF Embassy Nikolai Kim. He underscored the high capability of the air defence system of Tajikistan, TASS News Agency reports.

The official stressed that the Republic has enough air defence weapons to protect the country. He noted that Tajikistan will be able to cope with the air defence systems of all the neighbouring states, if necessary.

The Russian S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems are located at one of the polygons of the Republic. Representatives of the Armed Forces of Tajikistan accomplished the training course on the operation of this military equipment. Soon the systems will be transferred to the Armed Forces of the Republic, the Attaché added.

On April 27 last year, Dushanbe and Moscow signed an agreement under which the Central Asian state joins the regional air defence system.

On May 16, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon described the situation on the CSTO’s southern borders as difficult at the CSTO summit. He focused on the threats to regional security coming come from Afghanistan, where the Taliban (a terrorist organization banned in Russia and Tajikistan) is currently in power.
