President of Kazakhstan promises to support initiatives of country’s oldest “temple of sciences”

The Kazakh National University will soon celebrate its 90th anniversary.

On April 27, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev reviewed the work done by the higher educational institution for the year, future objectives and social problems during the meeting with Rector of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Zhanseyit Tuimebaev, the press office of the President of Kazakhstan reported.

Reporting on on-going research activities and international achievements of the educational institution, Tuimebaev put forward the initiatives to improve the efficiency of research activities, optimise human resources and renovate the KazNU campus to mark the 90th anniversary of the Alma Mater.

The Rector informed that the University plans to implement 650 projects in the most important deltas of the national scientific and technological base by 2024. In the future, these projects will be integrated into the real sector of the economy through setting up 20 spin-off entities, the scientist added.

The Rector informed the President about the social and infrastructural problems which remain unsolved for many years. In this context, he noted that depreciation of the buildings where students live and study exceeds levels. More than 2,000 university lecturers have no homes.

In conclusion, the President promised to support the initiatives and other proposals put forward by the oldest university.
