Prosecutor General of Tajikistan and UN Under-Secretary-General discuss counter terrorism measures

The interlocutors exchanged views on the National Counter-Terrorism Strategy for 2021-2025.

On April 22, Prosecutor General of Tajikistan Rahmon Yusuf met with Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) Vladimir Voronkov in New York. The interlocutors discussed the Counter-Terrorism Action Plan for the next few years, the press office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan reported to CentralAsia.news.

Yusuf and Voronkov exchanged views on the measures taken within Tajikistan’s National Strategy on Countering Terrorism and Violent Extremism for 2021-2025, paying particular attention to further Dushanbe-UNOCT cooperation.

The interlocutors highlighted the importance of expanding the potential of partnerships. They also discussed promising areas of cooperation within the Dushanbe process on Countering Terrorism and its Financing in Central Asia.

The meeting took place on the eve of the high-level briefing on countering and preventing violent extremism and terrorism in Tajikistan, which will take place tomorrow. It is part of support provided by the UN Counter-Terrorism Centre  to Central Asia within STRIVE Asia initiative, which promotes a multi-stakeholder approach, including governments, security actors, civil society and private sector entities, to strengthening resilience to radicalism.
