Child mortality in Kyrgyzstan declines by 73%

This figure was achieved in the period from 1990 to 2020.

On March 25, the roundtable meeting on the results of the four-year project for Strengthening Maternal and Child Health Care System took place in Bishkek. It was reported that child mortality in the Republic had declined by 73%, the press office of the Ministry of Health reported.

The above figure is based on data from the United Nations Interagency Panel for 1990-2020. By 2030, the Ministry aims to reduce neonatal mortality to at least as low as 12 per 1,000 live births.

The budget of the project for Strengthening Maternal and Child Health Care System was US$3.5 million. The project funded by the Cabinet of Minister of Japan envisaged building up capacity of health workers, purchasing modern medical equipment, repairing healthcare facilities, introducing telemedicine for health workers in remote villages and adopting new approaches to postpartum newborn home visits.

Recall that over the past 15 years, the number of early neonatal deaths in Kyrgyzstan has declined by 40%.
