Deputy Minister of Health of Uzbekistan reports on corruption at Ministry

Parliamentarians spoke sceptically about the work of the leadership of the Ministry of Health during the meeting of the committees on healthcare of the Oliy Majlis.

The Deputy Minister of Health of Uzbekistan presented the report “On the prevention of corruption in the system of the Ministry of Health and the promotion of an uncompromising attitude towards manifestations of corruption” to the Commission of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis on combating corruption and judicial and legal issues, as well as on protecting the health of citizens. Commenting on the report, the parliamentarians stated that the work was not being done properly and no significant progress had been made, although some measures were being taken, the press office of the Parliament reported to CentralAsia.news.

The committees of the Oliy Majlis have taken under strict control the activities to combat and prevent corruption in the healthcare sector. Though the reports from various sources have been heard, the decisions have been made jointly with the Ministry, as well as a number of legal acts have been adopted and recommendations have been given, there are no tangible results.

Not sufficient attention is paid to the eradication of corrupt norms and factors that place bureaucratic barriers. Inspections of a number of legal acts have revealed the factors contributing to corruption in the healthcare system. The Ministry was instructed to develop the best options.

The emphasis was placed on the need to post a list of services and medicines funded from the state budget on the website of the Ministry of Health, take additional measures to inform the population about health issues on a regular basis and abide by a professional code of ethics of health workers.
