Turkmenistan receives certificate on inclusion of dutar in UNESCO List

Foreign Minister Meredov reported it to President Berdimuhamedov at a working meeting.

Turkmenistan received the original certificate on the inscription of dutar making craftsmanship and traditional music performing art combined with singing on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov reported it to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov at a meeting on January 31, as reported by «Turkmenistan Today».

The decision to recognize the global value of the dutar was made at the 16th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization on December 13-18, last year.

Meredov congratulated the head of the state on the achievement. Turkmen leader, in turn, congratulated the officials and all citizens of Turkmenistan. The Minister of Foreign Affairs was instructed to prepare a plan on organizing events in honor of an important success for the whole country.

Dutar is a traditional musical instrument of the Turkmen people. It is a long-necked two-stringed lute with a pear-shaped body with a thin wooden soundboard.
