Roundtable meeting “Health Insurance in Tajikistan” in Dushanbe

The participants in the meeting addressed health financing issues.

On November 1, the roundtable meeting “Health Insurance in Tajikistan” was held with the support of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection and the World Bank at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Dushanbe, the press office of the Ministry of Health reported.

The main speakers included Deputy Minister of Health and Social Protection Gafur Mukhsinzoda. He briefed the audience on the major areas of work being done by the Ministry to build up health insurance capacity of the country.

Senior Health Economist and Consultant to the World Bank, Doctor of Economics Zine Eddine El Idrissi made a presentation on the introduction of health insurance and the practices of other countries in this sphere. He noted that health system development depended on financing. As part of the reform of this sector, the adoption of modern forms of financing was a priority, he added.

In Tajikistan, the allocations in the health sector have enabled to build a large number of health facilities, purchase modern medical equipment and ambulances and decrease the number of citizens who travel to foreign countries to get diagnosis and treatment.
