Film by Tajik Director Sherali named best at festival in Bishkek

The film Sarbor (Burden) was presented at the 10th International Short Film Festival of the CIS, Baltic States and Georgia.

On September 17, the closing ceremony of the 10th International Short Film Festival of the CIS, Baltic States and Georgia took place in Bishkek. Following the creative competition, the film by Director Manzarali Sherali from Tajikistan won Best Film, the Khovar News Agency reported on September 18.

The film Sarbor (Burden) about the problems of the society of the 21st century is based on the script by Sherali and Nekruz Jaliliyon. The project was implemented by SimurgH cinema. This is the first film of the young Tajik filmmakers.

The film by Estonian Director Kerli Kirch Schneider won Best Director. The film by Belarusian Director Andrei Svetlov received a special jury prize.

In total, 500 applications for participation in the festival were submitted, of which only 14 were included in the international programme. The Intergovernmental Foundation for Educational, Scientific and Cultural Cooperation of the CIS and the Aytysh Public Fund provided financial assistance for the film festival.

The International Short Film Festival has been held since 2010. It was founded by the politician Sadyk Sher-Niyaz. Its main goal is to expand the cultural dialogue among art workers of the Commonwealth of Independent States, Baltic States and Georgia.
