Rahmon and Lukashenko express hope for enhanced cooperation

The leaders of Tajikistan and Belarus expressed readiness to expand interstate relations on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko exchanged the letters of congratulations on the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Republics. They expressed hope that interstate ties would become stronger during the anniversary year, the press office of the President of Belarus reported on September 5.

Noting that Minsk and Dushanbe had built a very sustainable framework of multifaceted interaction during the period, Lukashenko said cooperation between the countries was built on the principles of friendship, transparency, mutual trust and respect. He highlighted the importance of the existing legal framework.

Noting that he expected the potential of partnerships between the Republics to expand in the future, the President of Belarus said interstate relations should focus on initiatives for the benefit of the people of the two countries.

In his message to his counterpart, Rahmon emphasised that relations between Tajikistan and Belarus over the past 25 years had been following an upward trend. He expressed belief that further partnerships would be filled with new constructive examples.

The leader of Tajikistan highlighted the effectiveness of joint activities in the fields of economy, science, technology and culture, as well as within the United Nations, the CIS, the Collective Security Treaty Organization and the OSCE.
