President of Tajikistan proposes to shorten school year

Emomali Rahmon put forward an initiative to move the summing up of school curricula to June 1.

On September 1, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon suggested that the school year end on June 1, speaking at the opening ceremony of Gymnasium for gifted children 4 in Firdavsi district of the capital of the Republic. The President said these innovations were required due to climate change and the spread of viruses, the press office of the President of Tajikistan reported.

Noting that specific studies had been conducted, Rahmon emphasised that the school year should be shortened, taking into account global warming, the emergence of contagious diseases and the mental state of schoolchildren.

The leader of Tajikistan instructed that the Ministry of Education and Science take a fresh and realistic look at the above problem and submit its proposals on the change in the length of a school year.

Until 2013, the school year at educational institutions throughout the country ended on May 25. Then the last call ceremony was moved to June 7 and 14. Parents expressed their dissatisfaction with this situation and wrote a letter to Mayor of Dushanbe Rustam Emomali, calling on him to change the date of summing up the school year in the city.
