World Bank to give $20 mln for Turkmenistan COVID-19 Response Project

At the Cabinet meeting President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that the funds will be used to purchase medical equipment and medication.

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held a regular government meeting on July 16. As part of the online session, it was announced that the World Bank will give 20 million dollars loan for Turkmenistan COVID-19 Response Project, as reported by «Turkmenistan Today».

Deputy Prime Minister for Banking and Economic Affairs Serdar Berdimuhamedov reported on the work in this direction. He stressed that the money will be allocated by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development of the WB Group.

Berdimuhamedov signed a decree on the conclusion of the loan agreement. According to the leader of the country, the money will be directed to purchasing medication and medical equipment, including reagents and syringes.

World Bank representatives said that this financial support will upgrade the capacity of Turkmenistan to respond to COVID-19 with project activities focusing on strengthening and improving access to healthcare services, and increase public awareness of the relevant risks as well.

It must be added that Turkmenistan reported no cases of coronavirus infection so far.
