Kyrgyzstan to temporarily ban food products exports

The Ministry of Agriculture submitted the draft resolution for public debate.

The Cabinet of Ministers submitted the draft resolution on a temporary ban on the export of certain agricultural commodities from Kyrgyzstan outside the EAEU customs territory for public debate, the press office of government of Kyrgyzstan reported.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Regional Development of Kyrgyzstan drafted the resolution, calling for a six-month export ban, except for re-export, transit and humanitarian cargo.

There are several reasons why Kyrgyzstan is going to place a temporary export ban, including restrictions on live animal export in Kazakhstan and the launch of the animal husbandry development programme in Uzbekistan, which contribute to increasing the export of farm animals from Kyrgyzstan.

In addition, the area planted under particular agricultural crops in the Republic decreased in 2020, which resulted in reducing the production of certain products and raising the prices for these agricultural products by 60-70 percent.
